On the Hoof: Ogbuehi is a work in progress physically as much as anything else. He is still growing into his body but has a very good offensive lineman frame to work with. He has long arms and a good athletic lower body base and has the height you look for in an offensive tackle. He is thin through the chest right now but should add weight on a college training table.
Needs improvement: As a senior, Ogbuehi is in only his second season playing on the offensive line, so he is still learning the position and absorbing technique teachings. He needs to gain weight, particularly through his upper body to be able to deliver a more physical punch at the point of attack in the pass game and to move big defensive linemen in the run game.
Most impressive: Ogbuehi spent the first two seasons of high school playing defensive end and that defensive end mentality and athleticism carries over to his ability to move on the offensive line. He has extremely light feet that will help make a very effective edge protector. He is very good at getting to second level defenders and blocking linebackers in space, and for a player with his height and experience, Ogbuehi plays with a naturally low pad level.
Conclusion: There is a world of upside for Ogbuehi in that he has the frame and athleticism to be an elite blocker. In his first year as an offensive lineman, Ogbuehi earned first-team all-state honors in Texas’ largest classification and there is no reason not to think that that level of play is only the beginning. He will need some time to develop physically in college but when he has the strength to grind with Big 12 defensive linemen, he will be a good one.
