On the Hoof: At first glance, Coyne looks like a college middle linebacker. He has solid upper body and a lower body that is proportionate, giving him an extremely sturdy look. His build is similar to B.J. Daniels at USF.
Needs Improvement: Lacks the ideal height to be a true pocket passer and will need to find windows or throw on the run a good percentage of the time. It is common for really strong-armed quarterbacks to force the ball into tight situations, increasing the potential for turnovers which is the case with Coyne. He needs to make the appropriate reads and take what the defense gives him rather than force the issue.
Most Impressive: Coyne has a short, compact throwing motion making it hard for the defense to react quick enough to make plays on the ball. He has tremendous overall body structure and is very mobile which makes him hard to tackle. But the most impressive asset that he has is a rocket for an arm. He has the strength to make any throw required of him.
Conclusion: Hopefully he will get the opportunity to redshirt and work on his decision making. If his performance at the Columbus Elite11 regional camp is any indication of his overall ability, then he should end up a star at the collegiate level.
