On the Hoof: Tall, very lean offensive lineman with the frame to add a ton of weight. He has the ideal arm length to be a pass-protecting offensive tackle. His build right now is more like a huge tight end and he will remind fans of a slightly shorter Jimmy Gjere, who signed with the Gophers.
Needs Improvement: Needs to slide his feet and keep in front of the defensive linemen when pass protecting. Sometimes he has the tendency to lunge out and attack, leaving himself in a vulnerable position. Austin has to be more consistent with his hand placement and win the battle to get them inside the shoulder pads. Finally, adding size and strength will help him become a more powerful run blocker.
Most Impressive: He is a natural knee bender and very light on his feet. He also possesses a more ideal frame because his future school will be able to control his weight gain. Austin could project at either offensive tackle position at the next level.
Conclusion: He is a certainty to redshirt unless he gains at least 40 pounds his senior year. Look for him to make his big move during his third year with the program.
