We reported this past weekend that Kent State coach Scott Stricklin likely was headed to Ohio State to replace long-time coach Bob Todd, who retired at the end of this season.

Sources continue to indicate that Stricklin is one of the leading candidates and perhaps the leading candidate for the Buckeyes' vacancy. However, Stricklin told me this morning that he has yet to speak with Ohio State.

Another source close to the situation confirmed that account, saying the Buckeyes will be interviewing candidates this week and that a decision should be made by the end of the next week. The Buckeyes, as of today, have yet to speak to candidates.

Though multiple sources believe Stricklin is by far the leading candidate, the name of Indiana coach Tracy Smith also has come up in several conversations.

Stricklin, though, seems like the best hire. He has done a fabulous job at Kent State the past few seasons and was named one of our top ten rising coaches last summer. He also has built the strongest program in the State of Ohio.

Stay tuned for more on the Ohio State opening.
