Scouting Report on Akeem Ayers

by Mike Farrell - 07/17/2006
Can play either weakside defensive end or outside linebacker. First step is very quick, catching offensive linemen off guard and putting them off balance. Takes an outside path to the quarterback as a rush end, but still has the discipline to flatten his pass rush and work his way back into the play on delays and draws. Is a playmaking and a high motor player, always trying to make something happen on the field. He has long arms and is very good at using them to make tackles even when he over-pursues. He squares up well in the open field and has the speed to run down plays laterally. Best position at the next level is likely as an outside linebacker who can blitz due to his smaller frame. Uses his hands well to keep blockers from locking up on him and he shows good leverage.
