On the Hoof: Has a stocky yet muscular upper body with an excellent power base. Is built similar to Florida linebacker Jon Bostic.
Needs Improvement: Runs with an abnormal gait and it takes him a while to get up to full speed. Hughes does not have ideal height or length so improving his ability to get off blocks will make him a more productive tackler.
Most Impressive: Possesses nice hips and the ability to make plays on the ball against the passing game. Has the strength and size to bounce around and physically hold up in the middle of the field.
Conclusion: Could see early playing time because he is very tough and a student of the game. Like most linebackers he will first get an opportunity to prove himself on coverage teams. I think he has an excellent chance to become a two-year starter or more.
