On the Hoof: Blackwell has very long arms and his legs look like those of a high jumper. He will remind fans physically of 2009 Texas signee Greg Timmons.
Needs Improvement: Blackwell has to get stronger in order to become a more physical run-blocker. More size and strength will also help him win battles for jump balls. Blackwell needs to be more consistent catching the ball away from his body.
Most Impressive: He is very smooth off the line of scrimmage and can sidestep tight man coverage. Blackwell has very good speed and is a real deep threat, which will help stretch the defense. As a potential kick returner he just has to hit the seam and he could be off to the races.
Conclusion: Don't be surprised if this talented athlete redshirts while he adds size and strength. He still looks fairly frail for someone who will eventually have to run routes over the middle of the field. The talent is there; he just needs to be a little tougher and meaner.
