Scouting Report on Lamar Dawson

by Barry Every - 06/03/2010
  • SpeedDivision I Player
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthBlue Chip
  • AgilityDivision I Player
  • Lateral PursuitBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Dawson has excellent height for an inside linebacker to go along with superior overall body structure. He has a build similar to 2008 Ohio State signee Etienne Sabino.
Needs Improvement: Dawson could improve his tackling form by working on getting more knee bend and striking ball carriers lower. He will also need to watch his weight if he wants to stay at linebacker because he could grow into a defensive end.
Most Impressive: He is a huge linebacker who can run and is not afraid of contact. Dawson also has excellent ball skills and could be a difference-maker by intercepting passes and scoring rather than just falling to the ground. His overall athleticism will allow him to play more than one of the linebacker positions at the next level.
Conclusion: He could see early playing time because of his affinity for contact and his overall size. Dawson will no doubt be a terror on special teams. Do not be surprised if he ends up the top prospect in Kentucky for the 2011 class.
