Scouting Report on Jalen Fields

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 11/3/2009
  • SpeedDivision I Player
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthDivision I Player
  • AgilityDivision I Player
  • Lateral PursuitBlue Chip
On the Hoof: He has a thick chest and wide shoulders. His powerbase is more like a power forward than a potential defensive end/defensive tackle. He is built similar to Texas A&M sophomore defensive tackle Tony Jerod-Eddie.
Needs Improvement: A very raw player that needs to use something other than his size and strength to control offensive linemen. Fields also plays high at the point of attack so improving pad level is a must.
Most Impressive: Has excellent size and speed with the potential to grow into a defensive tackle down the road. Fields also has excellent lateral movement and could be a pass-rushing threat once he learns more technique.
Conclusion: Fields most likely redshirt while he learns what is expected of him at the collegiate level. Fields has the size to compete early but most likely will not have an impact until his second season.
