On the Hoof: Has excellent height, thick neck and shoulders and long arms. His lower half is built like a two-guard and his overall body structure looks line an athletic outside linebacker. He is built similar to a young Jason Campbell when at Auburn.
Needs Improvement: Gardner needs to work on the depth and quickness of his drops, which will help with his timing. He also has not had the individual coaching that a lot of another top quarterbacks have had so he is still learning all the nuisances of the position. Needs to square up shoulders while throwing on the run.
Most Impressive: Possesses a really strong arm and can hurt you with his feet by extending plays or just gobbling up yardage on the ground. He is very motivated to be the best and takes to coaching and is a high-effort guy.
Conclusion: Definitely needs that redshirt year in order to hone his skills and learn the offense. His potential is almost limitless and he could be a major terror for defensive coordinators at the next level. Gardner should be a two- to three-year starter with all-conference and NFL potential.
