Corey Nelson

On the Hoof: Is built more like a safety than a linebacker at this point. Nelson has a very athletic build and probably will not play over 225 pounds. He is physically very similar to fellow four-star prospect Tony Jefferson.
Needs Improvement: Nelson will need to add at least 15 pounds of muscle mass in order to take on larger, more athletic blockers. He must improve his backpedal and overall coverage skills, especially playing in the pass-happy Big 12.
Most Impressive: He is a terror coming off the edge as a pass rusher and he does an incredible job of running laterally and stringing out plays run toward the boundary.
Conclusion: Smaller, quicker linebackers like Nelson may be the key to stopping the spread offenses of the Big 12. Nelson surely will have a role on special teams as a freshman and should begin to see meaningful playing time by his second season in college.
