On the Hoof: He has a very well-put-together, long torso with arms down to his knees. Quarles' legs could use some added weight for anchoring the defensive line. He is built a little like New England Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour at the same stage.
Needs Improvement: Needs added lower body weight and more consistency at playing lower at the point of attack. Popping up off the snap of the ball and being light in the pants, makes it too easy for interior linemen to push him off the ball on running plays. He also needs to take less snaps off, which can be improved by proper conditioning.
Most Impressive: He has pass-rushing skills from the interior position because of his long arms and overall athleticism. This will make him an every-down defensive tackle regardless of down and distance. Quarles is also light on his feet and has the ability to sidestep would-be blockers.
Conclusion: If he comes in ready to play hard on every snap and in good shape, he will certainly see playing time as a freshman. He is too big and athletic too keep off the field.
