Scouting Report on Trey Hopkins

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 08/17/2009
  • SpeedBlue Chip
  • SizeDivision I Player
  • StrengthBlue Chip
  • AgilityBlue Chip
  • Foot QuicknessBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Possesses extremely athletic legs, long arms and fairly wide shoulders. He has the frame to play at around 290 to 295 pounds and still keep his tremendous athleticism. Similar as a prospect to Clemson freshman Brandon Thomas.
Needs Improvement: He is a bit undersized at this time and it may take a couple of years for him to reach his ideal playing weight. Would also like to see him play with a nasty streak and physically intimidate his opponents on every play.
Most Impressive: He is a very athletic, versatile and intelligent offensive lineman. Hopkins is a natural hip and knee-bender, and has the ability to pull from any position and get down field and block. Most likely has the ability to play four of the five offensive line positions at the next level, which means he can be put where needed.
Conclusion: He is almost a definite redshirt candidate as he learns the blocking schemes and gains the needed muscle mass for D-I football. Because of his versatility and intelligence, he could easily see some playing time during his second year. Barring any serious injuries, he has a chance to be one heck of a college football player.
