Scouting Report on Calvin Barnett

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 09/30/2009

On the Hoof: Big, thick kid with wide shoulders, thick arms and a tremendous powerbase. He is a bit soft in the midsection and does need to watch his lower body weight. He physically will remind fans of LSU's Chris Davenport.
Needs improvement: Needs to use his hands and arms to keep offensive linemen off of his body. Barnett will also have to watch his conditioning, so he does not take plays off.
Most impressive: Very athletic for a big man, as he has the ability to create a pass rush from the interior line position. He is also very strong and can create quite a push versus the run, causing the middle to clog up.
Conclusion: If he comes into camp in shape, he will play as a true freshman. Kids this big and athletic do not grow on trees. Look for Barnett to become a three-year starter that excels at both pass rushing and stopping the run at the next level.
