On the Hoof: French is a tall, long, angular athlete and has the look of a shooting guard or small forward in basketball. His body type most resembles a taller Justin McCay of Oklahoma.
Needs Improvement: Defensively, he needs to work on wrapping up ballcarriers rather than just striking them. He also needs to tackle lower by getting better leverage and knee bend at the point of contact. If French is to play on the defensive side of the ball he will need to add some size and muscle mass. He does not have the experience as a receiver to make an impact at that position early in his career.
Most Impressive: He can run sideline to sideline and catch ballcarriers from behind. His skill set makes him ideal for blitzing quarterbacks from the edge. As a receiver his height makes him a mismatch for almost any defensive back.
Conclusion: This athlete is ideal for covering kicks on special teams but will likely redshirt as he gains size and strength. At this time I still feel he is best suited on the defensive side of the ball.
