HONOLULU (AP)—Sandora Irvin had 23 points and 17 rebounds and Texas Christian upset a ranked team for the second night in a row, beating No. 13 Michigan State 80-75 Sunday in the championship game of the Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Michigan State’s Rene Haynes had a chance to tie it with less than 3 seconds left, but she missed a 3-pointer from the right wing. TCU’s Ashley Davis followed with two free throws to seal the victory for the Lady Frogs.
Texas Christian (5-1) edged No. 3 Georgia 64-63 in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Spartans (4-1) went 8:09 without a field goal in the second half, allowing TCU to erase a 10-point deficit with a 21-4 run and take a 72-65 lead with 2 minutes remaining.
Lindsay Bowen led Michigan State (4-1) with 33 points, including six 3-pointers. Kelli Roehrig had 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Spartans.
Niki Newton added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Frogs.
