ESPN to debut women’s GameDay show at UConn

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP)—ESPN is planning to debut a women’s basketball version of its College GameDay program in January before a game between Notre Dame and Connecticut.

The network announced on Tuesday that the program will originate from Gampel Pavilion on the UConn campus in Storrs on Saturday, Jan. 16.

In 2005, UConn hosted the first men’s basketball GameDay broadcast before a game between the Huskies and Pittsburgh.

College GameDay is a studio show that previews the upcoming day of college games, and later recaps the day, while broadcasting live from the site of a featured contest.

I understand pulling for your favorite team. And yes I am happy that women are getting equal billing. But to suggest that Pat Summitt should retire and make way for Geno to be crowned the King of womens basketball is ridiculous. Men are taking over the coaching ranks of womens high school and college basketball programs throughout the nation. Women coaches are seldom given the same opportunities to coach mens basketball. Is to wonder that with all the other successful programs coached by women,Geno the King gets top billing to broadcast wonens basketball. Many of you women should think about the bigger picture of Collegiate Womens basketball and its future and ask why the good ole boys are looking out for one another.Notre Dame my not have the same number of championships as UConn but was quite deserving of having the same broadcast from their building.

Fantastic, about time some used their brain and put Women's Basketball where it belongs.I can't wait.this will be the best season ever and Pat Summit can watch and learn something from Gino. This is the way to treat your girls not threats.Gino has a way about him that the girls understand but with Pat she just is a woman that needs to realize her time is up and retire lady, your too old for this you've lost it.

the women are fantastic, and Geno is out of this world. As a 50 year alumni, can't say I feel the same about the mens program. I think the men are good when it's run and gun, but we lack plays. Zones and half court games usually eliminate our athleticism.

A no brainer. Gambel is THE place for NCAA basketball, both male and female. Just let the cameras cruise the banners. In addition, in tough economic times that forced ESPN to cancel their Christmas party, the move from Bristol CT to Storrs, CT is a financial boon. Just kidding but wanted to put everything in perspective. UCONN Women rule!

Great idea to put women's basketball on par with men's. It is a great game with great programs and deserves the same attention. Go Lady Vols!

UConn home games feature a electric atmosphere. Great place to have a show air from and to promote Women's College Basketball. Notre Dame and Muffett McGraw will be a good game. It could only be better if it was Tennessee coming in.
