Eastern Ill. assistant basketball coach dies

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP)—Jackie Moore, a 28-year-old assistant women’s basketball coach at Eastern Illinois, has died.

The university says Moore died Wednesday night at a hospital after collapsing as she started a workout.

School spokesman Rich Moser says doctors said Moore’s heart “just stopped.” Moser says an autopsy is planned.

Moore was in her third season at the school. She graduated from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., in 2005, and was from Windsor, Ontario.

EIU canceled all sports events this weekend.

    Coach Jackie put a smile on everyone's face no matter the room she entered. She will be truly missed! RIP and my prayers goes out to her family and EIU Athletics.

    Condolences to her friends and family.

    Sad how the Internet seems to be a venue for people to post comments such as #3,4, and 11. Shameful. Are people really that inhuman and rude or just jerks hiding behind pc's without a life. Probably both but really - who would write a post like these...

    Many prayers go out to her family. What a tragic thing to happen to such a young lady that was a great person.I can't imagine what impact this will make on the EIU ladies team. I hope they use this to remember her with a tremendous season and always keep her in their thoughts and prayers. God Bless Jackie and Rest In Peace. She is now in good hands with the Lord.

    Check out stopsads.org - Sudden arrhythmia death syndrome. My wife passed away from a SADS a little over a year ago at the age of 35, totally healthy and we had no idea she had a SADS. The reason in the 60's we didn't have this is because we did but didn't have the internet publishing stories like this one. My condolences to her family at this very tough time.

    It just a sock that young people are just going out like that. things like that did not happen during the sixties. it is just something strang going on in the world.

    I'm an EIU alum. One of my good friends was doing her nursing clinicals and she had Jackie in her room. Very sad and very tragic, R.I.P
