Michael Cooper gets first win as USC women’s coach
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Christina Marinacci hit the go-ahead free throw and Briana Gilbreath completed a three-point play in the final 46 seconds Sunday night, giving Southern California a 68-65 victory over Fresno State for Michael Cooper’s first win as a college coach.
The Women of Troy (1-1) had lost 81-71 to No. 11 Xavier on Friday in Cooper’s debut after eight seasons coaching the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
Gilbreath finished with 17 points, and Marinacci and Kari LaPlante added 12 each.
Jaleesa Ross had 22 points and Hayley Munro 21 for the Bulldogs (1-1).
USC trailed by seven points before using a 13-0 run to take the lead. The Bulldogs threw the ball away on their final possession.
