West Virginia struggles past Louisville 17-9

Jarrett Brown threw a touchdown pass but managed little offense and West Virginia struggled to beat Louisville 17-9 on Saturday. Running back Noel Devine played sparingly after tweaking an ankle and the Mountaineers (7-2, 3-1 Big East) were outgained 301-273, but improved to 6-0 at home. West Virginia Team Report Nov 4, 2009

West Virginia is getting back down to business after a Friday night fright night in Tampa, losing to the Bulls of South Florida.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong. The runners couldn't run, the defenders couldn't defend.

"That game is behind us and hopefully we learned something," coach Bill Stewart said. "We are in the final stretch of the season. Some teams have played nine games but we have played eight and have four left. This is when you find out how tough a football team you have."

With Louisville on deck, followed by a closing run of Cincinnati, Pitt and Rutgers—the Bearcats and Scarlet Knights on the road—the season only gets tougher than it has been.

Stewart is making sure his team does not look past Louisville.
