Utah freshman Jordan Wynn still hasn't played a whole game. Wynn didn't have to finish his first start, passing for 297 yards and two touchdowns before resting in the fourth quarter as the 17th-ranked Utes beat winless New Mexico 45-14 Saturday night. Wynn completed 18 of 28 passes while leading Utah to 557 yards of offense and the Utes' highest point total in nearly a year.

Before Utah can worry about playing for first place in the Mountain West Conference, the 17th-ranked Utes have to avoid a stumble against the team alone in last. The Utes host winless New Mexico on Saturday, one week before Utah's showdown at unbeaten TCU. "Regardless of who we're playing this week, we've got things we've got to fix," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said.

Utah is building a reputation for being the team that consistently makes the plays at the end of games that produce victories. The Utes have won eight of their last nine games decided by a touchdown or less.

The Utes don't want to be that team anymore.

Enter Jordan Wynn.

Utah (7-1, 4-0 Mountain West Conference) could be turning to its true freshman quarterback when it faces New Mexico (0-8, 0-4) at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday.

Wynn rescued the Utes from a 10-3 halftime deficit last week against Wyoming by rallying the offense for 19 unanswered points in a 22-10 win.

Coach Kyle Whittingham said the team was looking for a situation to insert Wynn all season.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham says he won't say who will start at quarterback until game time Saturday when the 17th-ranked Utes host New Mexico. Terrance Cain started the first seven games, but Whittingham replaced him with freshman Jordan Wynn in the third quarter last week against Wyoming. Wynn helped the Utes (7-1, 4-0 Mountain West) rally to 19 straight points in the win.

After waiting through the first seven games and wondering if he was going to end up redshirting, Utah freshman Jordan Wynn finally got to make his college debut. Now he might be headed for his first college start. Wynn replaced starter Terrance Cain in the second half and the 19th-ranked Utes rallied to beat Wyoming 22-10 on Saturday night.

Utah running back Eddie Wide got the ball five weeks ago and is still going. Wide has run for 100-plus yards in all four of his starts since Matt Asiata was lost for the season with a knee injury. Wide can tie the school record of five straight 100-yard games when the 19th-ranked Utes host Wyoming on Saturday.
