UCLA was the last team into the postseason, advancing to the EagleBank Bowl against Temple only after Army failed to upset Navy and achieve a sixth victory on Dec. 12.
The 6-6 Bruins are headed across country to Washington, D.C., to play in a lower-level bowl. That might be a disappointing combination of events in some seasons, but not for UCLA and second-year coach Rick Neuheisel, whose stated preseason goal was a return to a bowl.
This will do.
"It's a tremendous deal for our program to get back into the postseason," Neuheisel said. "We reached our goal," Neuheisel said. "Our goals will continue to get loftier."
UCLA finished seventh in the Pac-10 with a 3-6 league record and was shut out of the Pac-10 bowls. ...More |
