A season full of promise even after a seven-point loss to the No. 5 team in the nation two weeks ago has now turned into a season of uncertainty.

Despite lamenting the Boise State loss as a game it could have won, Tulsa coach Todd Graham and the Golden Hurricane took a positive attitude into the El Paso desert Wednesday against UTEP. And early in the fourth quarter, with a 24-13 lead, it seemed Tulsa was ready to seize control of the Conference USA West Division lead.

But after two late rushing scores by UTEP and Tulsa's inability to keep its offense rolling, the Golden Hurricane found themselves on the losing end of an El Paso barnburner for the third straight time.

In 2005, Tulsa was beaten 48-47 on a field goal with two seconds to go, then in 2007 a touchdown ...More
