Strange how a once-promising season can spin out of control in a seemingly short period of time. After losses to Boise State and UTEP on national television, Tulsa coach Todd Graham still was confident his team could rebound and compete for a spot in the Conference USA championship game.
Then came a loss to upstart SMU, and talked turned to a chance at a fifth straight bowl game. That scenario all but vanished Sunday in Tulsa’s 44-17 loss, its fifth straight this season, to East Carolina. At 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference, Tulsa now is shooting to win its final two games to avoid a losing season for the first time since 2005.
