Man who claimed for years to be Ohio State All-American tight end appears to be a fraud (Dr. Saturday)

Giovanni Strassini had a pretty good deal going. He'd show up as a guest at functions for a Charlotte-based Ohio State fan group, he'd pose for pictures and sign autographs, and he'd talk about his exploits as an All-American tight end for the Buckeyes in the mid-1970s on Facebook.
The only problem? Well, Ohio State has never heard of Giovanni Strassini.
Of course, that's where the story gets weird.
Strassini (or whoever he is) saw his story start to unravel on a message board thread at BuckeyePlanet.com . The posters on that site easily figured out there was no Strassini who wore No. 89 for the Buckeyes. He wasn't the third basemen for the baseball team in that era either, as he had also claimed. He definitely didn't score an 8-yard touchdown in the 1976 Rose Bowl, one of the more easily verifiable facts to look up. The Buckeyes' only touchdown that day was a 3-yard touchdown run by Pete Johnson.
The Rose Bowl ring Strassini posted on Facebook didn't look exactly like the actual Rose Bowl ring from the season he claimed it was from. And he wasn't drafted by the Cleveland Browns either, blowing up another one of his stories.
Yet somehow, Strassini pulled this scam off for at least a couple years before anyone noticed.

So some of you chuckled a bit at the “Texas… Football… Is… Back" video last week, and perhaps rightfully so after the Longhorns had a decidedly meh 2012 season.
Well, if you were snickering at that video, you'll have a big laugh at the response video posted by stewade on YouTube.

In case you were wondering when Texas football would return to national prominence, the university has issued an answer in the form of a 2013 trailer.
According to the video, “Texas… Football… Is… Back.”
Go ahead, get out that hearty laugh.
The video is full of clips from last year and coach Mack Brown does a voiceover aimed at getting Texas fans pumped, but really just apologizes for the past couple seasons.
"All of the energy and work we've put in the last two years are going to start showing more results," Mack Brown says. "You want to get back to being one of the top football programs in the country, where we deserve to be and our fans deserve to be."

Some rivalries never die, even when you move on to another school.
Florida coach Will Muschamp, who was the defensive coordinator at Texas, took exception to Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops’ comments regarding the SEC and his assertion that it wasn’t the super conference many say it is.
Shocking that a coach with Texas ties would disagree with the head coach of the Longhorns’ arch rival.

The announcement of the inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame is usually one of the most controversial events of the spring simply because there are a boatload of great players and only so many spots to be had.
This year, several players who were deserving of a Hall spot because of their fantastic accomplishments finally cracked the code and heard their name called. While all of the nominees definitely deserved to get in, we’re highlighting the five that made the most sense and were perhaps long overdue (note: we’re excluding Frazier since we wrote about him earlier).
Orlando Pace, OL, Ohio State (1994-96): Pace wasn’t already in? That was the sentiment across the country when one of the nation’s greatest offensive linemen (some might claim the absolute greatest) waited 17 years from the end of his collegiate career to enter the Hall of Fame. When his career started, Pace was only the second true freshman to start a season opener for the Buckeyes, was a two-time consensus first-team All-American and won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman. Pace was so adept at putting defensive players on their back that they nicknamed him “The Pancake Man.” He didn’t allow a sack during his final two seasons with the Buckeyes.

In retrospect, at least North Carolina, Ohio State and Georgia gave out rings for winning half a conference championship.
At the time, we had no idea Mack Brown was planning to give out rings to Texas players for winning a forgettable Dec. 29 bowl and creating "momentum" for the 2013 season. Yeah, seriously.
Just gave guys their Bowl Champ rings. Told them It's reward 4 winning Bowl game vs #13 Oregon St &momentum for 2013 twitter.com/UT_MackBrown/s…
— Mack Brown (@UT_MackBrown) May 2, 2013
At this point we'll throw our hands up in the air. If Texas – one of the storied programs in sports, which has a national title in the last 10 years and won at least 10 games every season from 2001-2009 – is giving out rings for an Alamo Bowl win, we give up.

Texas A&M is obviously serious about joining college football's elite.
The Aggies, who haven't won a national championship since 1939, already had been talking about stadium renovations . The latest report said the school is planning to expand its capacity from 83,000 to a more SEC-like 102,000. The news came from Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com.
Per A&M source, Kyle Field project will increase capacity to over 102,000.

The school had been discussing a new capacity of between 95,000 to 102,000, but being Texas and all, it went as big as it could.
The entire renovation and expansion of Kyle Field is a huge deal for the Aggies and the future of their football program.

Doc Five: Coaches who could probably use a big season – No. 2, Mack Brown (Dr. Saturday)

This offseason we will count down various topics from Monday through Friday, bringing you the top five of the important and definitely some not so important issues in college football. It's the Doc Five, every week until we will thankfully have actual games to discuss.
COACHES WHO COULD PROBABLY USE A BIG SEASON

NO. 2, MACK BROWN
To listen to Mack Brown tell it, the recent struggles of Texas football were due in large part to having young teams.
Maybe so, but Texas should never struggle like it has recently. Fair or not, the expectations are high for the program that generates more cash and has arguably the most fertile recruiting territory in all of college football. A 22-16 record over three seasons, which is what Texas has produced this decade, should not happen. The Longhorns have too many built-in advantages to produce that record.
There have been notable recruiting failures at quarterback, letting Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel slip away. The offense has seemed stuck in neutral without a clear plan. The defense has faltered, especially last season. Texas is in danger of becoming the second most attractive destination for recruits in the state, if Kevin Sumlin can keep making rapid progress at Texas A&M.
Brown's ultimate legacy will always be a 2005 national championship, which came in the middle of a nine-season streak of at least 10 wins. But he certainly doesn't want his time at Texas to end on such a disappointing note.
