Even though the last three opponents have averaged more than 50 passes and 430 passing yards per game against Southern Miss, head coach Larry Fedora still expects a smashmouth approach from the East Carolina offense in Saturday's C-USA East showdown.
"I know that [Pirates head coach] Skip [Holtz] believes in running the football and always has," Fedora said. "I still think that's going to be what they'll try to do. I think they'll be balanced. I don't think, and I may be surprised, that they're going to come out and try to throw it 50-some times a game."
The Golden Eagles (7-4, 5-2 C-USA) rank 10th in the league in pass defense (265.9 yards per game) and the Pirates (7-4, 6-1) average 209.4 passing yards. ...More |
