Clemson's Kyle Parker and South Carolina's Stephen Garcia don't know one another, yet have much in common in their first year as starting quarterbacks. Both are young, both are improving and both are headed for the biggest stage of their lives Saturday when the 15th-ranked Tigers (8-3) take on the Gamecocks (6-5) at Williams-Brice Stadium.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier understands all about rivalries. In the early '60s at Scientific Hill High in the mountains of Tennessee, he said there's nothing he wanted to do more than knock off crosstown Kingsport High. At Florida, he beat Florida State to win the national championship in one of the hottest rivalries of the 1990s.

What would it take for Gamecock fans to consider this season a success?

Beating Palmetto State rival Clemson on Saturday would be a good start. But it won't be easy.

South Carolina (6-5) heads into Saturday's regular-season finale having lost three straight. The Gamecocks have beaten Clemson only twice in the last 10 meetings.

This year could be especially tough, with Clemson playing its best football of the year while the Gamecocks are in what's become an all-too familiar tradition—a November nose dive. The Gamecocks lost their last five game in 2007 and their last three games, including the bowl, last season.

In contrast, Clemson rolls into Williams-Brice Stadium on a six-game winning streak and with a reservation to next week's ACC Championship...

As he watched South Carolina inch closer to a go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter, Florida coach Urban Meyer knew it was time for one of his Gators to make a play. Defensive end Justin Trattou was more than ready. Trattou made a game-changing interception and No. 1 Florida finished a perfect regular season in the Southeastern Conference with a 24-14 victory over South Carolina on Saturday.
