Beavers, Ducks try to balance holiday and hype (AP)

Oregon and Oregon State are trying to keep preparation for the Civil War completely normal, even though the game itself is anything but ordinary. The No. 10 Ducks will host the No. 16 Beavers next Thursday, with the winner earning the Pac-10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl. The long-standing rivalry has never before solely determined the conference's representative in Pasadena.

The Civil War on Dec. 3 will be for a Rose Bowl berth, and it also should help clear up the race for the All-Pac-10 quarterback.

The Ducks' Jeremiah Masoli made his biggest statement yet in the Nov. 21 double-overtime victory at Arizona. Masoli accounted for six touchdowns—three by rushing, three by passing—in the 44-41 win.

His performance left Arizona coach Mike Stoops somewhat in awe.

"Boy, he was special," Stoops said. "Those were plays a lot of people can't make. That was one of the best games I have ever seen played. He put the ball in places we couldn't get to."

Masoli and the Ducks will be going up against Oregon State and Sean Canfield on Dec.

"It was kind of funny. I wasn't really worried about it." The Ducks' gifted quarterback ruined the celebration in Arizona Stadium and started another one in Eugene.

An Oregon cheerleader was carted off the field and taken to a hospital after being hit in the head by a water bottle at the end of Oregon's 44-41 double-overtime over Arizona on Saturday night. Oregon officials identified the cheerleader as Katelynn Johnson, a senior. There was no immediate word on her condition or whether she had lost consciousness.
