Former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett is again seeking early release from prison. Clarett, who scored the winning touchdown for the Buckeyes in the 2002 national title game, has filed a motion asking a judge to release him. No court date has been set. When Jim Tressel arrived at Ohio State, his first priority was building walls around his fertile state. The only way he wanted to let a player out of Ohio was only after the Buckeyes had first refusal rights.
After nine years, those walls are at least cracking, if not crumbling.
The Buckeyes uncharacteristically lost more than half of the top 10 players in Ohio this season. The biggest blow was Jordan Hicks, the Cincinnati-area linebacker who chose Texas instead of the Buckeyes. Then Ohio State swung and missed on top offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson, the Minnesota native who chose USC over Ohio State on signing day.
