Northern Illinois lost its bid for a MAC West Division title with last week's loss at Ohio. The defeat took the thunder from NIU's upcoming trek to Central Michigan. If the Huskies defeated the Bobcats and Chippewas, they would've advanced to the MAC title game.

However, the Huskies (7-4, 5-2) remain in the bowl hunt and can enhance their chances with an upset over the Chippewas. With a win, the Huskies can become the first MAC team to defeat the Chippewas this year. The Huskies lose a day of rest due to the game being played on Friday. The Chippewas, though, enter their final regular season contest with two extra days of rest due to playing on a Wednesday last week.

"The toughest thing for us right now is we've played three weeks in a row," said NIU coach Jerry Kill.

Quarterback Chandler Harnish threw a touchdown pass in his first appearance in nearly a month as Northern Illinois topped Ball State on Thursday. The Huskies (7-3, 5-1 Mid-American West) won their fourth straight while the Cardinals (1-9, 1-5) dropped their sixth game by seven or fewer points. Harnish had missed three games with a knee injury.
