Coach Larry Fedora went into his first spring at North Carolina with three objectives.

He believes he accomplished at least two of them.

"One was that coming out of spring ball that we had to have a good understanding of our base—our offense, defense and special teams—the base," Fedora said. "The fundamentals.

"And we did that. I think our guys understand the base concepts of the three phases."

The second aim of the spring was to learn to practice what Fedora called the "new Carolina way"—with energy, passion and enthusiasm.

"We're not there yet," he said, "because our work capacity is not where it needs to be."

And third objective?

"Identify as many of our playmakers going into fall camp," he said.
