Few teams have successfully ridden the emotional rollercoaster that the Gophers have been on for the last seven days.

A week ago, Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster announced that the team's best offensive player, receiver Eric Decker, would miss the rest of the year with a foot injury. An inspired Gophers team, however, found a way to top a Michigan State squad Saturday that had come within two seconds of its own upset over Iowa a week earlier.

But for the second time this season, trouble followed victory for the Gophers.

Key reserve cornerback Michael Carter was arrested early Monday morning near campus for underage drinking and obstruction of justice. Despite his arrest, Carter will play, Brewster announced Tuesday.

Minnesota defensive back Michael Carter will be allowed to play against Illinois despite his arrest this week outside a campus pizza parlor. Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said Tuesday that the matter is being handled internally and that the freshman will play against Illinois. Carter was arrested early Monday and charged with obstructing the legal process and underage consumption.
