Terry Hawthorne returned an interception for a touchdown and Clay Nurse had four of Illinois' seven sacks to lead the Illini to a 35-32 victory over Minnesota on Saturday. Few teams have successfully ridden the emotional rollercoaster that the Gophers have been on for the last seven days.
A week ago, Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster announced that the team's best offensive player, receiver Eric Decker, would miss the rest of the year with a foot injury. An inspired Gophers team, however, found a way to top a Michigan State squad Saturday that had come within two seconds of its own upset over Iowa a week earlier.
But for the second time this season, trouble followed victory for the Gophers.
Key reserve cornerback Michael Carter was arrested early Monday morning near campus for underage drinking and obstruction of justice. Despite his arrest, Carter will play, Brewster announced Tuesday. ...More |
