At the top of the to-do list for Michigan coach Brady Hoke following his team's win over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl was recruiting, but not just assembling a body count of first-rate athletes would do.

Hoke had to make his second Michigan recruiting class "fit" with the program as it is defined under his direction. When Hoke took over in January of 2011, the Wolverines were using a spread offense and a three-man defensive front, so the recruiting class lined up by former head coach Rich Rodriguez was tuned to fit those parameters.

On a number of counts, Hoke was essentially stuck with the players Rodriguez had already received commitments from, and some of them did not fit the more pro-style attack on offense or the revised 4-3 defense.
