A couple more games like this, and Miami running back Graig Cooper could think practice is overrated. He might not be alone, either. It probably wasn't a coincidence that Miami's most complete game of the season came the week where coach Randy Shannon considerably scaled back practice time. Players on both sides of the ball felt fresher, and the result was a 52-17 rout of Virginia that...

A defense that couldn't stop anything a week ago was suddenly airtight. An oft-injured running back had the best game of his career. And a punt returner somehow evaded seven would-be tacklers on his way to a touchdown. For No. 16 Miami, everything worked. Graig Cooper rushed for a career-best 152 yards and a touchdown, Thearon Collier cut across the field for a remarkable 60-yard punt return...

Wake Forest's offense did everything right against Miami. Piled up 555 yards, racked up 33 first downs, had an average of nearly 7 yards per play. And it still wasn't enough. Chances are, there probably weren't a lot of postgame pats on the back for the Miami defense a week ago, not after giving up more first downs than any Hurricanes team ever before.

Miami quarterback Jacory Harris was only a high school senior when Miami hosted Virginia two years ago in the last game the Hurricanes would play in the old Orange Bowl, since demolished to make way for the Florida Marlins new baseball stadium.

The memory is not all that pleasant.

First, he was late getting into the stadium.

"I didn't get in until the second quarter, and I think it was already 21 to zip," Harris said. "It was too crowded to get in. We were still making our way in there, and it was 21-zip. Virginia had a good team."
Then Harris had to sit and watch as the Cavaliers went on to post a 48-0 victory, putting a huge damper on the festivities the school had planned to send out the old...

An end-of-season swoon doomed Miami a year ago. With injuries piling up, Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon thinks he's found an insurance policy against that happening again. His plan: Seeing if making practices shorter keeps No. 16 Miami in games longer. Starting Tuesday, the Hurricanes trimmed about 45 minutes from practice, with the new template calling for sessions to last only 1 hour.

Like a blindside blitz, Miami quarterback Jacory Harris never saw this coming. When it comes to interceptions, he's currently one of the nation's leaders. Not in a good way, either. Harris has been intercepted 10 times through the season's first seven games. That's the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and only seven quarterbacks in the Football Bowl Subdivision have been picked...
