It could have been one of those days Eric Moncur would remember forever. He was supposed to be playing his final regular-season game Saturday for the Miami Hurricanes. His mother was supposed to be there, wearing her kid's No. 94 jersey, screaming nonstop for three hours to the delight of the Miami faithful sitting nearby.

It's a stretch to call Miami's regular-season finale against USF a "rivalry game" what with it being only the second time the two teams have every played.

But there still is something special about it because it matches the Hurricanes with another in-state foe.

"You take FIU, South Florida, Central Florida, Florida State, Florida, and Miami we've all become rivals," coach Randy Shannon said, no doubt unintentionally leaving Florida Atlantic out of the mix. "When you play each other, it becomes a rivalry, no matter how you put it because we're all Division I programs.

"All the coaches in the state are doing the best they can do, and they're all recruiting the same type of players.

After further review, Jacory Harris putting on a postgame sling was merely for comic effect. Miami's quarterback appeared for his postgame interview after Saturday's 34-16 win over Duke with his right, or throwing, arm supported by a sling. He has a thumb injury on that hand, the exact severity of which has not been announced, and played against Duke with his hand wrapped in tape.

Kendric Burney had just grabbed his third interception and returned it across midfield when he saw roommate Melvin Williams to his right near the sideline.
