Miami football practices are closed to the public. Unless, of course, the public is Bill Parcells and Alex Rodriguez. The 14th-ranked Hurricanes had some star power at their final two workouts at their home facility this season. The consensus is that when a team from the South takes on one from the Midwest, the former has the advantage in speed, the latter in size.
Miami coach Randy Shannon, whose Hurricanes take on Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 29, takes issue with that.
"Everybody recruits speed," Shannon said when he and Wisconsin's Bret Bielema attended an early bowl press conference in Orlando. "It's not going to be a situation where we're going to be faster than those guys or they're going to be faster than us.
