Friedgen: Turner injures MCL in NC State loss (AP)

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen says quarterback Chris Turner injured a ligament in his left knee Saturday in the loss at North Carolina State. Turner injured the medial collateral ligament in his knee as he was hit by two Wolfpack defenders, one high and one low, while throwing a pass to Torrey Smith with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the first half of the 38-31 loss.

Russell Wilson threw three touchdowns and ran for another, and North Carolina State snapped a four-game losing streak by holding off Maryland 38-31 on Saturday in a matchup of the ACC Atlantic Division's worst teams. Wilson was 25-for-38 for 343 yards and the Wolfpack (4-5, 1-4) made just enough plays to secure their second win against a Bowl Subdivision opponent.

Though the players and coaches remain outwardly optimistic that the Terrapins are capable of winning their final four games and qualifying for a bowl game, the reality of the team's 2-6 record is that it's hard not to focus on 2010 and beyond.

As with all losing teams, the coaching staff has come under fire. This is one of the first times in Ralph Friedgen's nine-year tenure that the head coach is getting significant criticism, with an increasing number of message-board posts and talk-show callers mentioning the desire for a coaching change.

Here's the problem. The athletic department has already decided who that next coach is going to be, which is small consolation to those unhappy with the offense or with recruiting.
