Brian Anderson threw two second-half touchdown passes to freshman Aaron Dobson to lead Marshall to a 34-31 win over SMU on Saturday, making the Thundering Herd bowl eligible for the first time under fifth-year coach Mark Snyder. Having already secured bowl eligibility, Marshall players know they must avoid a trap Saturday at UTEP if they want to lock up postseason participation for the first time since 2004.

"When you're on top of things, everybody loves you, but we have to stay focused," running back Martin Ward told the Huntington Herald-Dispatch. "We can't look forward to a bowl game. If a bowl game comes to us, it comes to us."

Ward, a redshirt freshman filling in for injured starter Darius Marshall, rushed for a team-high 136 yards in last week's victory against SMU. He said the Thundering Herd (6-5, 4-3 C-USA) is not overlooking the Miners (3-8, 2-5), who haven't won a season finale since 1986.
