From a competitive standpoint, Louisiana Tech fans and players can be happy with what the team has accomplished as of late.

From a results standpoint, the harsh reality is the Bulldogs have lost five straight and are sitting with a 3-8 record in a season they had hoped to be one of the Western Athletic Conference's elite, or at very least be making its second-consecutive bowl game.

The disappointment of the Louisiana Tech season doesn't just reside in Ruston, La. The league is desperate for more programs to play well to help the national perception of the conference shift from being only Boise State to being a complete conference.

"I feel like ... we're one of those programs the WAC needs to play consistently well," said head coach Derek Dooley.

Field goal at finish lifts Fresno State, 30-28 (AP)

Kevin Goessling's 35-yard field goal on the game's final play lifted Fresno State to a 30-28 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Ryan Colburn completed just 17 of 42 passes for 182 yards but marched Fresno State (7-4, 6-2 Western Athletic Conference) 68 yards in the final 2 minutes, 21 seconds to set up Goessling's winning kick.

Williams lifts No. 9 LSU over La. Tech, 24-16 (AP)

Keiland Williams moved piles, slipped tackles and ultimately broke the will of an upstart underdog trying to beat mighty LSU for the first time in more than a century. Making his first start of the season, Williams ran for 116 yards and two second-half touchdowns, helping the ninth-ranked Tigers fend off Louisiana Tech 24-16 on Saturday night.
