A few weeks ago, the Kent State program was reeling following a fourth-quarter collapse against Bowling Green. Saddled with injuries to several key players, the Golden Flashes faced an uphill climb toward respectability.

The Golden Flashes bucked the odds and won their last three games to enter the Akron game sporting a 5-4 overall mark and 4-1 divisional record. Kent State is tied for second place in the East with three games remaining.

Kent State coach Doug Martin, who was on the hot seat earlier this season, clearly is enjoying the three-game winning streak. The Golden Flashes can become bowl eligible with a win over Akron. The Golden Flashes last played in a bowl game in 1972.
