Defensive TD sparks Illinois past Minnesota 35-32 (AP)

Terry Hawthorne returned an interception for a touchdown and Clay Nurse had four of Illinois' seven sacks to lead the Illini to a 35-32 victory over Minnesota on Saturday. Jacob Charest threw for 185 yards and a touchdown after replacing Juice Williams, who left in the first quarter with an injured left ankle.

Illinois quarterback Juice Williams left the game against Minnesota with an apparent left leg injury. Williams was injured in the first quarter on Saturday when he fumbled on a running play. He limped off the field and appeared to be favoring his left leg, but there was no immediate word on the nature of his injury.

In years past, Illinois coach Ron Zook employed the 24-hour rule when the Illini won. Players had 24 hours to revel in their victory before casting it aside and preparing for the next challenge.

But this season, which has been one frustrating week after another, calls for different measures. After Illinois snapped a seven-game Big Ten losing streak with its 38-13 victory over Michigan on Saturday, Zook allowed his guys to celebrate until they hit the practice field late Monday afternoon to start prepping for this week's visit to Minnesota.

"I wanted them to enjoy what happened," Zook said. "I think sometimes what happens after a win is you put it to bed so early and go on to the next game, you don't really get to enjoy it.

Michigan receiver Roy Roundtree cradled the ball and sprinted for the end zone. Terry Hawthorne took off after him, finally catching up 76 yards down the field and spilling him across the goal line. Points went up on the board and it looked as if another long afternoon for the Illini was taking shape.

Juice Williams broke loose against Michigan again and Illinois stopped the Wolverines on four plays from the 1 before the Fighting Illini ran all over the Wolverines for a 38-13 win Saturday. Mikel LeShoure ran 70 yards for a touchdown following the fourth-down stop, and Illinois (2-6, 1-5) rolled up 377 yards rushing.
