Terry Hawthorne returned an interception for a touchdown and Clay Nurse had four of Illinois' seven sacks to lead the Illini to a 35-32 victory over Minnesota on Saturday. In years past, Illinois coach Ron Zook employed the 24-hour rule when the Illini won. Players had 24 hours to revel in their victory before casting it aside and preparing for the next challenge.
But this season, which has been one frustrating week after another, calls for different measures. After Illinois snapped a seven-game Big Ten losing streak with its 38-13 victory over Michigan on Saturday, Zook allowed his guys to celebrate until they hit the practice field late Monday afternoon to start prepping for this week's visit to Minnesota.
