Bryant Moniz threw four touchdowns and Leon Wright-Jackson ran for a career-best 167 yards and three scores to help Hawaii snap a six-game losing streak with a 49-36 victory over Utah State on Saturday night. The Warriors have lost six straight and now must win their final five games to get a bowl berth.
The first part of that stretch is at least workable. The next three opponents are Utah State, New Mexico State and San Jose State—three struggling teams.
Coach Greg McMackin says he will continue to coach his team to win those games and not begin developing players for next season.
"I wouldn't do that to our seniors," he told the Honolulu Advertiser. "They've worked hard, and they deserve to win. We're doing everything we can to give them a chance to win."
McMackin has called this year two of a two-year rebuilding project. The Warriors lost nearly all of their offensive players in 2008. ...More |
