New coach Tim DeRuyter wants Fresno State to play with increased tempo. The Bulldogs are not there yet, not even to the 75 percent that DeRuyter and his staff were aiming for before spring practice.
"I'll say right now we're about halfway there," offensive coordinator Dave Schramm told the Fresno Bee after spring practice ended.
It's certainly a new day at Fresno State, which fired coach Pat Hill after 14 productive seasons and installed DeRuyter, the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, as the new boss. He is installing a no-huddle, spread offense—much different from the traditional pro-style offense that Hill employed.
