Urban Meyer of Florida became the first coach to be disciplined under the Southeastern Conference's new policy regarding criticizing officials. The league fined Meyer $30,000 on Friday, two days after he said referees missed a late hit against quarterback Tim Tebow in No. 1 Florida's 41-17 win against Georgia.

Florida coach Urban Meyer believes Southeastern Conference officials missed a late hit on Tim Tebow in Saturday's game against Georgia. Meyer said Wednesday the crew calling the game should have flagged Bulldogs linebacker Nick Williams for knocking his quarterback to the ground well after he had gotten rid of the football.

Coach Urban Meyer obliged, saying Wednesday that it was in the top-ranked Gators' best interest that Spikes sit out Saturday's game against Vanderbilt.

Antwine, a 300-pound junior from Garland, Texas, re-injured his shoulder against Mississippi State last month and might need season-ending surgery. Florida has clinched the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, assuring a trip to the SEC title game in Atlanta. But there are bigger goals for the Gators, who are trying to extend their nation-best 18-game winning streak and preserve their No. 1 ranking.

That quest will continue Saturday at home against Vanderbilt.

"The focus is on trying to get better," Florida coach Urban Meyer said. "That's absolutely what we do. Last week, the ship was sinking. That's what I kept hearing."

Florida (8-0, 6-0 SEC) solved some of its red zone woes last week against Georgia, scoring 10 points in three trips inside the 20. Against Vanderbilt, Florida will look to try to fluster Vanderbilt quarterback Mackenzi Adams, who is making his first start of the season.
