  The Blue Devils go into the finale against an opponent that also will miss the postseason. For the Blue Devils, though, there has been upward movement in two seasons under David Cutcliffe.

   A victory against Wake Forest would give more credence to the notion that the Blue Devils are on the rise.

  Duke and Wake Forest often have been compared because they're private schools that have had periods of football struggles, so this is an important game for the Blue Devils so they don't go an entire decade without defeating Wake Forest.

  Duke has lost some of the sizzle off its midseason climb when it won three games in a row. Restoring that would be another check mark in its favor to cap the season.
