Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall has hired two new assistants to work with the team's defensive backs and tight ends. Darrell Perkins, who served for the past two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Louisiana-Monroe, was hired Thursday to the same position in Storrs. The Huskies don't have one of the top recruiting classes in the country, according to the experts who keep tabs on those things. No matter. Coach Randy Edsall has the guys he wanted, and that's been good enough to get the Huskies out of the doldrums and into bowl games every year.
Getting disrespected is certainly nothing new for Connecticut. Every year, the team is an afterthought all offseason, but under Edsall, it has always been ready to surprise once the season starts.
The Huskies are counting on the 20 players added to the program on Signing Day to continue the tradition.
