Quarterback Omar Clayton threw for a touchdown and ran for another to help UNLV defeat Colorado State 35-16 on Saturday, keeping the Rebels' bowl hopes alive while ending the Rams' postseason chances. Two programs with high expectations but disappointing results meet Saturday in Las Vegas, when Colorado State (3-6, 0-5 Mountain West Conference) faces UNLV (3-6, 1-4). The loser is guaranteed a cozy seat in front of the television during bowl season.
The Rams remain upbeat despite a six-game losing streak that has wiped out all the momentum built from the team's best start in 15 years. Coach Steve Fairchild obviously is concerned but shows no signs of panic or frustration.
