At the end of his big day, a group of Texas fans were chanting Jordan Shipley's name when he was pushed out of a group of Longhorns players, flashed a quick "Hook'em Horns" salute and jumped back into the pack. For a guy who seldom likes to talk about himself, even he had to acknowledge the best day ever by a Longhorns receiver.

Two months ago, Texas would have avoided any direct talk of playing for a national title. Back when the No. 2 Longhorns (8-0) were initially scheduled to play Central Florida (5-3), anything so bold would have been waved off as too much, too soon. Now, however, the Longhorns know what's in front of them if they keep winning, starting Saturday.

One thing UCF head coach George O'Leary doesn't have to worry about against No. 2 Texas is the thought of his players giving up.

The Knights face (5-3, 3-2 C-USA) the Longhorns (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) in Austin on Saturday, six days after coming back from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Marshall. They scored the game-winning touchdown with just 23 seconds remaining.

"We just kept fighting our butts off all night," defensive tackle Torrell Troup said. "Coaches tell us to play with effort and enthusiasm and we did that all night long."

Quarterback Brett Hodges said the Knights didn't lose faith when his fourth-down pass fell incomplete with 2:40 remaining.

"It was tough for us then, but we couldn't just sit over there and just sulk," he said.

UCF edges Marshall 21-20 on late TD (AP)

Brett Hodges threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Ross with 23 seconds left and Nick Cattoi added the extra point to give UCF a 21-20 victory over Marshall on Sunday night. UCF (5-3, 3-2 Conference USA) scored twice in the final 8 minutes to overcome a 20-7 deficit and beat Marshall (5-4, 3-2) for the fifth straight time.
