There is no BCS bid on the line, or even a league title. But when Utah and BYU get together, as they will Saturday in Provo, it's usually a good, unpredictable game.

And there are some implications.

Both teams come in with 9-2 records with sole possession of second place in the Mountain West at stake ... as well as the undying gratitude of a fan base for the next 12 months.

"It is going to be a great game," BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said.

"You have two teams that are having great success, two teams that are in the Top 25 in the country again, two teams that are 35, whatever, miles apart, and a state championship on the line with two teams that have played very good football over the last four years."

Jackson Emery scored 16 points and had five steals to lead Brigham Young to a 107-51 win over Southern University on Tuesday night. BYU (4-0) pulled away early as Jackson and Jonathan Tavernari scored 13 and 11 points respectively to push the Cougars to a 57-22 halftime lead. Jackson's steals, all in the first half, contributed to 13 Jaguar turnovers.

MWC reprimands BYU player, assistant coach (AP)

The Mountain West Conference has reprimanded BYU defensive end Jan Jorgensen and assistant coach Barry Lamb for comments they made about Air Force. Jorgensen called the Falcons "legal, but dirty" and Lamb criticized Air Force for low cut blocks in a story that appeared in the Provo Daily Herald last week.

A landmark victory for BYU quarterback Max Hall was important to his coach for another reason -- it was another hard-fought win for the Cougars. Hall passed for two touchdowns and got his 29th victory at BYU to match Heisman Trophy-winner Ty Detmer's school record, and the No. 22 Cougars survived a sloppy fourth quarter to beat winless New Mexico 24-19 on Saturday.
