Cam Thomas and Kendric Burney each had defensive touchdowns on Saturday as North Carolina scored three times in a span of 2 minutes, 19 seconds to open a 21-point lead and hold on to beat Boston College 31-13. As it turned out, the game really didn't mean much, anyway, but Boston College picked a terrible way to suffer its only home loss of the season.

The Eagles, who entered the day still alive in the chase for their third consecutive trip to the ACC title game, would have seen that dream end, anyway, when Clemson won later in the day. Even so, BC gave the ball away six times and dropped a 31-13 decision to North Carolina.

BC needed to beat both UNC and Maryland while having Clemson lose to Virginia to make the title game a reality, a long shot at best.

Instead, the Eagles, going 0-for-13 in third-down situations, lost, falling to 7-4, and probably didn't change its realistic bowl situation, all signs pointing to a Dec. ...More
